Born on April 8, 1947, in Hilo, Hawaii, Kiyosaki is of Japanese-American descent. He served in the Vietnam War as a helicopter gunship pilot and was awarded the Air Medal for his service.

After his military service, Kiyosaki pursued his passion for business and investing. He started several ventures, including a company that produced nylon and Velcro wallets, which initially achieved success but eventually went bankrupt. This early failure taught him valuable lessons about entrepreneurship and financial management.
